Who ate all the pies?
Elephants took no prisoners in a game of jumbo football this month with local prison inmates. The game was organised in a bid to convince people before Euro 2004 that football can be fun without having a bet on it. The elephants (very much outsiders with local bookies) won 7-6 although one of them is being investigated for spitting.

Still on football, it would be a brave man who would bet on the outcome of Thailand buying a stake in Liverpool football club. Protests about the government using public money has meant the option is now being investigated by a group of prominent business men in Thailand but it is making little progress. Meanwhile one of the local beers, Chang, has signed a 3 year sponsorship deal with over-the-Mersey neighbours, Everton. Images of elephants will apparently adorn their shirts.
Online Networks
There is a new emerging trend on the Internet: a growing extension of community sites to become peer-networking sites. There was a bit of noise about this a couple of years ago with sites such as friendster.com and various online dating sites. From a business perspective there are two that are now creating the most noise. Linkedin.com and Ecademy.com. You will shortly be receiving invitations from me to join both of these sites but before you sign up here are some things to know:
- Both sites are free although some advanced features of Ecademy do have a charge. - Both sites, especially ecademy, require some investment of your time if you are to get the most from them.
After some initial scepticism as to the value of that time investment, the benefits of joining a global network of likeminded people regardless of your particular career seem to be quite compelling.
Of course if you are a member already look up my profile and make contact, otherwise try and set some time aside this week to set up your profile. You never know who might be on there that can help you and it’s not like there’s any decent footi on TV!

Mobile Vision
Half way through the year already? The month started enthusiastically with a joint promotion with Conrad Hotel and ‘87’. Sponsored SMS’s updated customers on all of the Euro 2004 games while promoting the Heineken buffet and viewing of the games on big screens and plasma screens. The screens and the beer are still there but England are not.
Even more exciting is the party of the summer just a few weeks away at Q Bar. Having built their new Mobile Page any of their customers anywhere in the world are now able to check out what is happening from their phones. Although the site has not gone live yet you can get an advanced peek by going to wap.qbarbangkok.com. Built and hosted by Mobile Vision yet managed by Q Bar it will take the number one spot in the MobySites Bangkok Night directory to be launched later in the Summer. Nokia are sponsoring the event and giving away brand new phones, DJ Kid Koala is flying in especially. July 21st. If you’re in Thailand don’t miss it. If you’re not, you should be!
Getting away from football and bars and back to the day job for a minute, Mobile Vision were last week in Singapore talking at a Direct Marketing Association event. Lots of great stuff happening there and plenty of potential partners enabling us to offer pan Asian services to our clients now.
Also a big congratulations to Linda Ruck who has recently launched XL Magazine in Singapore.
Finally, if you have sent us an email in the past 2 months there is a good chance that Netconcept our previous hosts failed to deliver it to us. If you have not had a response, please resend and many apologies for the inconvenience. It is now fixed.
