Mobile Vision in Europe, more then just cosmetic changes

A slightly different feel to this month’s newsletter as most of it has been spent in Europe. The thought of midnight closing in bars in Thailand as discussed last month was just too much to bear. However, don’t cancel your holidays to Thailand yet, it seems actually very little has changed and things go on as usual. For now…

Thailand v's Europe

Mimicking the on-going success of the low fare airlines in Europe, flights in an around Thailand are coming down in price. For those who can be flexible in their flying times some real bargains can be had.

After a long winter most of Europe have their (numb) fingers crossed for another great spring and summer like last year. Meanwhile as Thailand heats up it braces itself for Song Kran the water festival which comes in the middle of April and dissolves into a 4 day water fight designed to cool everyone down. Outstanding fun and those in the know are already stocking up on water pistols, water balloons and flour bombs.

Techno-Colour

A trip to most Mobile Phone shops in Europe shows that almost all phones on the market now have full colour multi-media capabilities. However, an informal survey of users (coupled with a great pub-crawl) showed that most people are still unaware of, and/or unimpressed with, the non-voice services open to them. Text and voice are still the leading use for a phone.

Undeterred, the network operators are working hard to change that. None more so than ‘3’ the operator formally known as Hutch or Hutchinson Whampoa. ‘3’ have aggressively priced its way on to the market in the UK. Although battery life continues to hamper sales (extra battery packs are being given away with phones) the quality of the video calls is fantastic and well worth a look.

Mobile Vision

Video services are old hat for Mobile Vision who first launched streaming content last July. The current latest and greatest comes from the fashion industry of all places; pioneering the way in communicating with their customers via the mobile phone. The cosmetic industry in particular is seeing fantastic results in Thailand through putting together mobile strategies to reach their customers and keep them informed of new product launches, fashion shows and special offers.

As mentioned above, much of this month has been spent in Europe and Mobile Vision are pleased to have signed up a UK reseller as well as working directly with a number of big clients.

Back in Thailand for a moment and another first for MV. The launch of their ‘Online Database Tool’. This service allows MV or their clients to gather highly specific opt-in database’s for marketing. This, coupled with some recent partnerships with market research companies, has enabled MV clients fantastic access to some of the most sought after demographics in Thailand.

As the first quarter draws to a close, we look forward to seeing what innovative campaigns and uses MV clients launch in the second quarter. Keep watching this space for further details…
